What is the point of your story? Another way to think of this is to ask, what is the takeaway of your story? What will your reader believe about human nature when they finish? *

Tell me about your story in 250 words or less. What happens in it?*

Who is your main character? Give a quick ID. What do they want? Name the external things—money, a home, a prize, a mate, etc. Name the internal things—confidence, faith, peace, belonging, etc.*

What is preventing your character from getting what she wants? Name the external things—an evil overlord, dire circumstances, asteroids from space, someone with superior skills or assets, etc. Name the internal things—fear, a sense of unworthiness, a belief about her place in the world, etc.*

What is the genre of your story? If you need help, look at the genre designations at goodreads.com, or at filmsite.org.*

Any comp titles? (Existing books, movies, TV series that might be comparable to your project)*

Why are you the best person to write it? What do you bring to the work?*

Who is your target audience, based on genre and topic?*

Write one sentence you dream a critic would write about your book/script.*

Write one sentence that would appear in your worst nightmare of a book/script review.*

Do you belong to a writers group? If so, what has been your experience? If you've shared this project, what sort of feedback have you received from them?*

Have you worked with an editor on this project? If so, what feedback did you get from them? What was your experience working with them?*
